  30. The engine manufacturers have it a bit easier than the aircraft folks,
  31. because their products can go up on a variety of birds.  The 777, as
  32. currently envisioned, basically wants really hefty turbofans -- it's
  33. almost 747 size but only two engines -- and those are already cooking
  34. for other applications, notably enlarged 747s and DC-10s.  Even so,
  35. you won't find an engine manufacturer investing big bucks in (as
  36. opposed to announcing the existence of) a new engine without a pretty
  37. good assurance of a market for it.

  79. 1990 ASTRONAUT CANDIDATES SELECTED

  82.      In the first of what will become standard biennial 
  83. selections, 23 new astronaut candidates have been named for the 
  84. Space Shuttle program.
  85.  
  86.      The candidates were chosen from among 1,945 qualified 
  87. applicants, 106 of whom received interviews and medical 
  88. examinations between September and November 1989.  They will 
  89. report to the Johnson Space Center, Houston, in July to begin a 
  90. year of training and evaluation, after which they will receive 
  91. technical assignments leading to selection for Shuttle flight 
  92. crews.

  94.      The 1990 group consists of 7 pilot candidates and 16 mission 
  95. specialist candidates, including 11 civilians and 12 military 
  96. officers.  Among the 5 women selected are 3 military officers, 
  97. including the first woman to be named as a pilot candidate, and 
  98. the first Hispanic woman to be chosen.  A listing of the
